GWCT Super Pro Snare
The Game & Wildlife Conservation Trust - Super Pro SnareDeveloped by the Game & Wildlife Conservation Trust (GCWT) over several years, with the aim of improving all performance aspects of the snare itself. This snare has been tested by GWCT staff and by over 50 professional gamekeepers in trials lasting more than 2 years. The snare is fully compliant with recommendations of the Defra Code of Practice, but goes further in its provisions to avoid the capture or retention of non-target species. At the same time, painstaking care was taken to improve practicality and ease of use. This snare proved so popular with participants in the GWCT trial that many were asking to buy more as soon as the trial ended.
Features: High quality stainless snare cable, will not rust. Pre-tinting allows immediate use without preparation, but can be boiled and re-coloured indefinitely. This cable offers a near-perfect compromise between rigidity and unwanted springiness, and is visually very unobtrusive. High quality swivels. Strong, dependable anchor swivel, compact and unobtrusive mid-point swivel. ‘Relax-A-Lock’ running eye, specifically designed in the USA to hold but not kill the captive animal. Built-in weak point at eye (‘breakaway’), ensures strong non-targets cannot escape with snare loop attached around neck or body or leg. Stop fixed at 26 cm, prevents capture of deer by the foot, and allows captured hares to pull out. Easy-swivelling tealer clip allows fast setting with minimal handling (leaving less human scent), and lets the snare return to its original position if brushed by passing animals. Copper tealer rods (sold separately) last a lifetime and oxidise to blend in perfectly with natural vegetation. Once used, you’ll never be satisfied with anything else. The GWCT’s trial version of this snare used a titanium ‘breakaway’ clip as the weak point. This allowed ‘proof of concept’ that through good snare design a sizeable proportion of non-targets could release themselves automatically soon after capture. 46% of badgers and 18% of brown hares escaped via the breakaway, and a further 54% of brown hares pulled out thanks to the stop position. Fox escape rates were indistinguishable from those of other snares. (And yes, it seems that hares can briefly generate more force than foxes can.) If you particularly want your snares built with the titanium breakaway ring, as in the GWCT trial, this can be done – contact us for pricing. Here are a few testimonials from gamekeepers who were involved in the trial. 3mm Copper Coated Tealer'sCopper coated tealer's are used to support the Super Pro Snare over the run. |
